I just learned that some of you are having trouble emailing the Board of Veterinary Medicine about their decision not to require owner consent for student practice, and I hope this update will fix the problem. Emails are bouncing back because only part of the address was included in the link, so I am going to give you the information again. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see whether or not the link is correct this time until after this update is released. If you find that the entire address isn’t underlined, the link still won’t work, and it will be necessary to copy and paste the address. I’m so sorry about this extra trouble. Here’s what I suggested in the February 8 update: Please email the Board at this address vetbd@dhp.virginia.gov and tell them this: I am aware that you turned down the petition to require owner consent for any student practice, not just unassisted surgery. I want you to know that I think the decision was wrong. It is unethical for veterinarians to permit student practice without the owner’s permission. Please reconsider your decision, and require owner consent when you revise the regulations for student practice. Also, please copy the Veterinary Association on your message to the Board at this address: Vvma@aol.com Thank you so much for your help on this issue. I don’t think the Board is used to hearing from the public, so your voices are very important. As always, please feel free to contact me with comments and questions: LeeHenkel01@mail.com
