Banneker Senior High School has been working towards a renovation for decades. We have ranked as the number one public high school in Washington D.C several times, and have been known as one of the most selective and rigorous schools within the city. Our demographics are comprised with a majority of African American and Hispanic students, and NEW Shaw residents are fighting against our use of a facility that has been vacant for years. Many students have missed school days to lobby at the John A. Wilson building, and have been told that our relocation would not fit the environment. Out of most DC public schools, Banneker is last to receive a renovation despite tremendous achievements, and the budget was cut $53 million dollars. We ask for you all to sign this petition and fight against gentrification.
