Get Village Voting out of Lynbrook And East Rockaway Public School Buildings

We have serious concerns about Village of East Rockaway polling/voting in schools within the Lynbrook District, which are located in the Village of East Rockaway, (i.e. South Middle School, Waverly Park School and Marion Street Elementary School). Currently Lynbrook Village DOES NOT use the school buildings (West End, North Middle or LHS) for village elections, rather they use Greis Park Recreation Center.
In addition we request East Rockaway Village polling and voting removed from all East Rockaway Public Schools ( Rhame Ave, Centre Ave and ERHS).
On polling, primary and special election days, all of the normal safety procedures are not followed, such as locked front entrance, stating name and reason for visit, signing in and asking for identification. This is due to the voter's rights and election laws. The attached picture was taken during a recent primary day and you can notice the front door of Marion Street WIDE OPEN on a school day.
Given the strong concern for the safety of our schools, our students and teachers, we would like the Village of East Rockaway to reconsider the locations where voting takes place.
Recently Assemblyman Brian Curran has proposed Bill #A992, requiring alternative polling sites. This came after a recent incident at another Long Island school involving a gun on primary day while students were present.
We are in full support of this bill and we ask you to sign this petition and urge the Village of East Rockaway, to consider moving the location of the polling and voting out of the schools and into another locations that would help secure the safety of our students and schools. Possible alternative sites may be a library, local VFW, American Legion or Elks lodge.
Thank you for your support.
