Camapaign Update from Reopen Our Schools

Re-open Bellfield, Haig Street and Banksia Secondary College School Sites
Nov 27, 2016
Dear Supporters
In October 2016, the State Government released its final report into the provision plan inquiry that it promised in the lead up to the last State election in 2014.
To access and read the full report, click on the link below, and you will be taken to the DET provision plan web page.
Provision Plan consultation
Reopen our Schools and broader community members worked as part of the Community Reference Group to provide the DET with feedback about the challenges that families and children are facing when trying to get access to public schools in Banyule.
It was disappointing to note that the DET did not consult about the chosen study area. Reopen Our Schools was concerned, and still remains concerned that the study area boundary downplays the true picture of need and enrolment pressures in the area.
Be that as it may, Reopen Our Schools will continue to campaign and work with Government to work through the recommendations that were made from the Stage 2 report.
We will also continue our campaign to reopen closed schools in Banyule and to see that proper public education provision is available to children and families within Banyule.
What’s next?
Reopen Our Schools is currently liaising with the DET about the next steps in working through the recommendations.
Our grass roots, community campaign will continue until children in Banyule have proper and equitable access to local public schools within their community.
Don't forget to check our Facebook page and/or follow us on twitter for more regular updates. We will also continue to post updates here on Change. Org as they come to hand.
Thanks again for your continued and ongoing support.
Warm Regards
Sonja Terpstra
