Dear Mental Health Minister Martin Foley

November 2016 - Premier Daniel Andrews announces a $27 million funding package towards suicide prevention in yet another area of Victoria with an increasing suicide rate. Before we can start reducing the suicide rate, I believe we first need to find out the reasons why people are killing themselves. We need to know the reasons before we can work on a solution. The Premier and the Mental Health Minister both want to reduce the suicide rate - it's their job to - so why won't they start looking into one of the most significant causes, that is preventable and appears to be responsible for around 20% of suicides? Could it be because of the billions of dollars the governments receive in gambling revenue? Is this what's holding them back from saving lives?
