Letter Sent to the Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos

Hello everyone, this morning I will send off the following letter to the Health Minister, Jenny Mikakos, requesting that we be allowed another 19 days for Victorians to get their submissions in.
 
As you will all see, there is something very disturbing about a 60-day consultation period shortened to 41 days without any explanation. 
 
I will inform you all immediately I have the Minister’s response.

Dear Minister Mikakos
 
My name is Dav Howard, and I am writing you to request an extension to the submission date for the Arbovirus category of the current Review into the 2009 Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations, as found on your Engage Victoria website.
 
There are 2400 signatures (and growing) on the attached Change.org petition, all of whom are wondering why we were only given 41 days to submit our thoughts on such alarmingly overreaching changes to Arbovirus control in Victoria, when the “Public Health and Wellbeing Sunset Review Regulatory Impact Statement” states on page 13: ‘The consultation period is 60 days.’
 
It certainly makes the Government and the DHHS look as though they have something to hide, and are trying to get these legislative changes through before Victorians have had a real chance to have their say.
 
This is particularly so, in light of the spraying of French, Dawn and Goyarra Streets in Rye, on the Mornington Peninsula, in March this year. The residents were not consulted prior to this spraying, nor were they offered an opt out, and were left thoroughly distressed by the whole incident.
 
We would like all Victorians to be given the 60 days they were promised to participate in the discussion around these changes, which would take us up to October 19 as the final date for submission.
