Ban the Consumption of Dog & Cat Meat in Australia

Currently, in Australia, it is only illegal to consume dog and cat meat in South Australia. All other states rely upon animal welfare laws to protect. Australia's animal welfare laws need updating and have many loopholes for horrible underground activity to be carried out. It could be argued that the animal was killed humanely, therefore it didn't suffer and is no different to livestock. We ask the current State Government to implement legislation that is in line with South Australia and ban the consumption of dog and cat meat. Then encouraging other states to follow suit and establish a National Ban. If Australia opposes the consumption of our domestic pets, it must show it is serious and implement laws to reflect our society, and not leave room for exploitation like other countries.
