Tonight Victoria University of Wellington put out a press release  http://wellington.scoop.co.nz/?p=116817 - claiming they had independent legal advice saying the decision by Minister Hipkins to decline the name change proposal was unlawful. While the university hasn't decided whether they will stage a legal challenge based on this advice yet, I believe their decision to essentially threaten that course of action through a media release is completely and utterly inappropriate.

As such, I've decided to reopen our petition to keep sending a clear message to the University Council and Vice Chancellor Guilford that their continued rejection of the overwhelming opposition to the name change, and their threats at forcing it through via obscure legal arguments, are completely inappropriate.
