Why this petition matters

Started by Lynn Massey-Davis

Dame Jenni Murray is a nationally recognised broadcaster and popular feminist with a career of more than 30 years. Amongst her achievements she has fronted the BBC flagship programme “ Women’s Hour” and has written many popular feminist books. She has helped make everyday issues women face accessible and understandable. She is a notable alumini of Hull University. It is right that she is honoured by a university in having a lecture theatre named after her. It is wrong that a current unrepresentative cohort of politically active trans activists should deny her this recognition. Their behaviour is reminiscent of the masculine behaviours of 100 years ago which denied women a voice. It is also wrong that a small number of very strident and aggressive students should dictate restrictions to the academic leadership on legitimate and deeply held views which have an academically robust defence in several disciplines.
