Hi family and friends,

Please join us in struggle as we urge the Ventura City Council to take down the Junipero Serra statue. For far too long our indigenous relatives have had to endure the pain and erasure of their culture and history. Last Wednesday, way over 400 community members joined the Special meeting to discuss the Junipero Serra Statue. About 40+ people called in to speak in favor of keeping the Serra statue up. Over 70+ people spoke in favor of taking down the statue!! We need to keep this momentum going! 

Call to Action: 

1. Post a picture of you and your family holding a sign that says “I __ in Ventura”. Ex: “live, go to school, shop, grew up, visit family, etc.” Add these two hashtags to your image and post #TakeSerraStatueDown #ChumashTerritory. Feel free to tag Ventura council members, friends and family in your post!

2. Email/ Write Public Comment to Ventura City Council before this coming Wednesday July 15th Special Council Meeting where the fate of the Serra statue is supposed to be decided. Note: This Monday is a regular scheduled council meeting and the Serra statue will not be on the agenda but we encourage you to still call in during public comment. 

3. Call in to Wednesday’s Special Serra meeting!! We need everyone to give a public comment. You will have roughly 1-3 minutes to speak on why the statue must come down.
