Will you call/email Chancellor Zeppos?

Hi all,
It’s day two of our week of action. Big thanks to those who took the first action and shared the petition yesterday.
TODAY, let’s make sure Chancellor Zeppos knows what we think. Will you send him an email, or call his office?

Serious concerns have been raised about the denial of tenure to Professor BethAnn McLaughlin, a hero of the MeTooSTEM movement. The appearance of her firing as retaliation for her activism supporting targets of sexual harassment sends a chilling message to the nearly 70% of whom experience sexual harassment in the academic science workplace. Vanderbilt University has a responsibility to the public to act with integrity not just in its dealings with individuals but also in its dealings with the community. Firing Professor McLaughlin sends the message that retaliation against those who report sexual harassment and their supporters is not just tolerated, it is encouraged. I ask that you reverse the denial of tenure to Professor McLaughlin. Recommendation 6 of the 2018 National Academies of Sciences, Medicine and Engineering report on sexual harassment is that “Academic institutions should convey that reporting sexual harassment is an honorable and courageous action.” Professor McLaughlin’s actions must be publicly recognized as honorable and courageous. I ask that, as a leading institution of higher education, Vanderbilt should act as a leader by preserving Professor McLaughlin’s job and voice as the public face of MeTooSTEM.
