Despite the strong survey results against, VSB (planning staff) is recommending to the board to declare the south portion of the site as surplus. It seems that our opinion, the stakeholders, and the children in the community do not matter to the Planning staff because opportunity cost to raise funds for their perhaps shortfalls and poor management of funds outweighs everything else. 

On May 5th, 2021 (today), one of our parents will be speaking as a delegate at the Facilities Planning Committee meeting today at about 5:15 for 10 mins. 

In this meeting, he will speak to the following 4 points:
1. Public consultation and survey results demonstrate the majority of the community does not support the land disposal

2. Current Fleming Site area of 1.89 ha does not meet the Ministry of Education's Guideline for required Site Area (2.3 ha)

3. There are no parks within 8 minutes walking distance of the school

4. Forecast should not be based on enrollment but rather on where kids live and will live

On Monday, May 10th 2021, another parent will present as a delegate. She has requested the following information from VSB using the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and will be speak to the following:

1. The number of children who were not accepted, or denied or turned away for entry into Kindergarten in the school year of 2021 at Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary School ("Fleming School");

2. The waitlist for Kindergarten at Fleming School since 2016 to the present time;

3. The number of applications made by parents on behalf of students for Kindergarten to Fleming School from 2016 to the present time;

4. The internal emails, memos and notes by VSB employees regarding the decision to decrease enrollment at Fleming school from 2016 to the present time;

5. Whether there are any land assessments, independent or not done on the Fleming School on Knight and 49th (6363 Lanark St, Vancouver, BC V5P 2Y8) from 2016 to the present time;

6. The identity (I.e. school names) of the schools which the VSB plans to sell in the next 5 years;

7. The budget, past and future of Fleming School (2016-present);

8. The dismantling of the French Program at Fleming School (emails and internal memos of same)
