THE WHALE WON! Many thanks and congratulations to all of you who helped push the Vancouver Park Board to vote unanimously in favour of amending a bylaw to prohibit the importation and display of whales and dolphins at the Vancouver Aquarium! It takes a village to ban whale captivity, and we all did it! Many local groups and folks deserve much thanks for this victory in Vancouver, including, Janos Mate, Kelly Bunting, Gary Charbonneau, Jeff Matthews, and many others. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! May 15th - the Park Board commissioners will discuss the wording for the bylaw amendment and we need to make sure that no rescues and other such loopholes are allowed. Rescued cetaceans should go to the rescue center and not be placed in show tanks forced to perform for their food. Much more info to come on this issue. Please consider signing up to speak for that May 15th meeting. We'll keep you posted when to do that. Note that the war has not been won - yet but this battle was a huge victory for the whales. Thanks again, everybody! Annelise Sorg No Whales In Captivity
