Petition updateNO NEW DOLPHINS - NO NEW WHALES at the Vancouver AquariumAbout Chester, the False Killer Whale deemed "unreleasable"

Is the Vancouver Aquarium a responsible rescue agency or should it have its license pulled? After Chester, a young false killer whale was rescued and placed in captivity, instead of keeping him "wild" so he would have a chance to be returned to the ocean, aquarium staff are proud to have "bonded" with Chester!!! So now Federal Fisheries says Chester is not releasable because he has had "extensive contact with humans". Did the Aquarium not keep the whale wild on purpose so they could put Chester on display? Chester should have been given a chance to return home. A rescue is not a rescue unless there is an intent of release. In this case, there doesn't seem to be the intent to release Chester and so he will now become another Vancouver Aquarium tourist attraction. Interesting that CTV news started their newscast tonight by warning viewers that they would not like the news coming from the Vancouver Aquarium. The unpleasant news was that Chester would NOT be released. Instead Chester will be placed in the dolphin display tank with Helen, the only surviving performing dolphin. Keep signing our petition (see below) to stop the importation of more dolphins because we believe that the Aquarium is planning to buy and bring more Pacific white-sided dolphins like the one that died to fill up the tank. Pacific Whitesided dolphins are the prized possessions of whale jails as they perform the most acrobatic acts that tourist pay to see. Please sign and share this petition asking the Park Board to ban the importation of more dolphins.
