On Saturday evening April 17, 2021 I was taking photos at Jericho Beach Duck Ponds in the area seen in the photo and video, when I was shocked to observe that the duck ponds were being used as a pissoir by large groups of intoxicated young people, lining up to pee in the bushes, or against the trees, by the pond, several in full view of anyone walking by, leaving a pile of TP in their wake for Park Board maintenance staff to clean up.

After several tries of the VPD non-emergency line, I​​ finally managed to get hold of the VPD on Sunday afternoon and filed a report. Apparently they checked things out after my call. They assured me that the beach patrols will be starting soon and they will be looking out for this. I sure hope so, but I have my doubts.

This new development at the Jericho Beach duck ponds does indicate  what we have to look forward to if/when the Park Board proceeds with their plan to have a BYOB drinking zone at Vanier Park Duck Ponds - the ponds being used as a pissoir by drinkers who are too lazy, or intoxicated, to walk to the two public washrooms nearby. This is in addition to the expected amplified music and other noise and disturbances of the wildlife habitat at the ponds.
