Support American Sign Language as a Dual Language Immersion program

The Issue

We urge the Utah State Board of Education to make ASL a DLI program so that deaf children can grow up communicating with their hearing peers/friends, neighbors, and community.

When my youngest entered kindergarten he had a classmate who was deaf. Although the children tried to involve this classmate in their activities, it was challenging because they didn’t speak the same language.

The deaf children of Utah have to wait 9 years before our schools offer to teach ASL. With your help we can change that to one year through the DLI program which starts in first grade.
