Here's what's new

First I’d like to thank everyone that has signed the petition! To see many names that I recognize from the local tennis community warms my heart as well as the support of others that can empathize with this cause.
We’re hoping to make Middle States NJD USTA leagues more equitable and accessible to a large demographic, women age 18-39. That’s a span of 21 years; a generation! This age group accounts for more than 30% of tennis participation according to the 2026 USTA participation report. In addition, women tennis participation has increased 10% over the last year. That’s 1.1 Million women across all ages! There’s no doubt that women 18-39 represents a significant demographic that continues to grow. 18-39 is also a prime workforce group that mostly works during standard hours (Mon.-Fri. 9am-5pm). USTA Middle States NJD Leagues should adapt accordingly just like neighboring sections like Eastern have.
Despite my continuous urging to the local NJD ALCs the past year and a half, NJD central currently only offers 18+ women 3.0 leagues outside of prime working hours (evening/weekend) in the spring for 8 matches and 18+ women 3.5 for 10 matches; nothing in the fall, winter, or summer yet other demographics like 18+ men or 40+ women do have fall/winter weekend/weeknight leagues for 20+ matches. Sadly, it’s not even due to court availability.
Here's what's happened since you signed the petition:
I spoke to the Middle States USTA Adult League Manager in person and expressed our concern. It was a conversation that happened coincidentally because I was at Sectionals in Lancaster for mixed doubles. Talk about meant to be!
I also followed up via email with research, data and viable solutions that I had sent to the NJD ALC last year urging opportunities for 18+ women’s leagues outside of prime working hours during the fall and winter when playing opportunities are significantly limited.
The Middle States adult league manager has promised to take a closer look at NJD and explore what opportunities and/or challenges exist for growth and expansion of league tennis at every level.
We hope this translates to meaningful and equitable change. Please keep sharing the petition!
