"I don't think Mr. Higgs even has any feeling about anything that's going on."- Winston Tyler, Rae's father
Rae Tyler's death was what sparked this petition.
Rae is the third person I have watched burn to death in camps within the year and it was the 7th time I had to call SJFD to put out fires on Paradise Row.
And it broke me.
I called my friends crying.
I called Councillors crying.
And I got a response of "well, you seem to have all the answers, so why don't you tell me what you think we should do and I'll tell you why it won't work" and "tell me this, would you rent to these people?"
First of all, that's an elected officials response to a grown man who is a constituent begging him to save his residents
And second
That's the response of a landlord who puts money ahead of people's lives.
I hope this makes your blood burn, just like Rae's lungs did when she died in the fire.
She didn't deserve this.
Her father doesn't deserve to hear the premier show no remorse.
Our city doesn't deserve councillors who have such a callous view of life.
But
We are now 282 strong
And with your help we have grown
Please don't forget Rae
Please don't let Rae's father become just another grieving father whose child died in vain.
We are 18 away from 300
I bet we can get there today
Share Rae's story and her father's pain.
Death on the street is a policy choice
Money over human life.
Thank you, you're amazing
Andrew
