Once you learn about all the benefits of dairy alternatives, you might wonder how America ever became such a dairy-guzzling machine in the first place. Well, the answer dates back to the first and second World Wars, when dairy was being shipped overseas to soldiers. After the wars, there was a huge surplus of milk so the government pushed it off onto America's children through the Federal Milk Program for Schools in 1940.

Take a look at this article from VegNews for more history of dairy milk and schools, as well as the initiatives happening to get non-dairy milks into schools!
