Hi Everyone, My family and I are working with several bipartisan Senate offices that will soon be sending a letter asking the Department of Homeland Security for answers on why the Kamran family's case was denied and for an explanation on why so many other US military interpreters are being denied now. I am also working several House members and with Oversight and Homeland Security committees to get a classified briefing on these questions soon and to possibly have a hearing on this issue of leaving our allies behind.
Please keep calling Congress, both your own Senators and Representative and leaders like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (whose office number is 202-224-2541), and ask them to save our allies. There is more interest in Congress now in addressing the dysfunction of immigration programs for foreign allies in the wake of the US withdrawal from Syria and the tragedy that has ensued there. There is also bipartisan support for sanctions to pressure Turkey to end their attack on Kurds and others in Syria. However, the Senate has now stalled on voting on sanctions for Turkey.
In light of Turkish president Erdagon's visit to the White House tomorrow, now is a good time to call your Representative and Senators and remind that we must stand behind our allies. This includes stopping Turkey's attack on the Kurds as well as reforming immigration programs for foreign nationals who risk their lives to aid our military abroad.
A new Wall Street Journal report today documents drone strikes by Turkey that target civilians. This is unacceptable and Congress must act.
Thanks for your support,
Kristy Perano
