I have been contact by referee upper management to stop with the petition because it may do more harm then good. Please read the below response by me to them.
I’m sorry that you see this as an attack against USA Hockey. My intention is to be proactive and avoid a potential problem later in the year.
I’ve spoken with referees in my organization and others. Everyone is reluctant to reregister at this time, with the current uncertainty of the coming season. They are taking a wait and see approach before registering. Some may decide to not register at all, if the season starts late and is a partial one. If hockey does resume, you may be in a situation of not having enough referees to cover games.
I believe extending certification is a reasonable solution that would help to avoid this problem. Referees would be available immediately once the season resumes.
Again, I’m only trying to find a solution that works for everyone. My intent is not to undermine the organization.
