"The people -- the people -- are the rightful masters of both congresses, and courts -- not to overthrow the constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert it." Abraham Lincoln— As a signatory on this petition, you, along with a coalition of millions of other optimists, have hope our democratic insititutions will provide positive effects in the face of great adversity. Ours was initially a fringe mission, to challenge the electors to consider all factors, especially the apparent criminality of Donald Trump and his cohorts, before casting their final votes. The petition was up for weeks before the notion even got reported in a major paper. Now, the idea is in every news outlet, especially due to the recent "extraordinary factors" revealling Russia’s stake in our election as well as Trump’s cabinet choices which clearly illustrate corruption and nepotism. By constitutional right, “Faithful Electors” could possibly do as John F. Kennedy called on great humans to do: have the courage to go against party lines and vote their conscience. Harvard Law Professor Larry Lessig, who's been offering free legal counsel to faithless electors, stated, “We now believe there are more than half the number needed to change the result seriously considering making that vote”.  On behalf of your signature and your conscience, we have reached out with our strong numbers to our federal representatives and the Department of Justice. Our petition efforts are done, but like you, we are not done and will continue to fight for the integrity of our democracy. The Dec. 19 electoral college vote day is an additional opportunity to take action. Several activist groups have created “A Day to Defend Democracy” by staging protests at state capitols across the country. To find the location in your state: http://www.savedemocracy.org/?source=democracyspring. As Move On writes: “Can't attend in person? Then please—right now—post on Facebook, Twitter, or the social media platform of your choice the message you wish you could deliver in person to a wavering Republican elector and tag it #ElectoralCollege. These messages may or may not reach the electors, but they will show solidarity with those who are joining the statehouse actions and help build the visible movement resisting Trump and his toxic agenda.” We leave you with a complelling article by Geoffrey R. Stone, a Professor of Law at University of Chicago: http://time.com/4597387/faithless-electors-donald-trump/ Thank you and onward! D&L
