As we remember the slaying of Muhammad al-Durrah, the 12 year old child who was a brutally murdered by IDF soldiers (a war crime) in front of his father Jamal al-Durrah on September 30, 2000, we must continue to demand an end to US complicity in the abuse of Palestinians and reject efforts to stifle the movement to free Palestine.
Senator Marco Rubio of Florida thinks he can pick and choose who the US Bill of Rights apply to. Rubio introduced a bill that targets the 1st Amendment Constitutional right to boycott companies associated with war crimes (illegal settlement activities) in Israel.
Let's be clear: Attacking the right to boycott to defend Palestinian human rights is racist. The ludicrous bill also engages in historical revisionism: it dismisses the reality of systemic racism and the lived experiences historically marginalized identities have suffered and continue to suffer because of it in America.
