On Friday, June 5, 2020, President Trump continued his attack on our public lands, waters, and health by proclaiming the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument open to commercial fishing. Allowing industrial fishing within the boundaries of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts will cause irreparable damage. Industrial-scale fishing gear can catch and entangle marine wildlife — including endangered whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and seabirds — and destroy rare and fragile corals. This change to a national monument is illegal. Let your Senators and Representatives know you support protections for the Atlantic Ocean’s only marine national monument.
