January 2, 2015 From Don J. Snyder Two weeks ago FOX NEWS broadcast the story of young army lieutenant, Clint Lorance, who is serving twenty years in Leavenworth prison for trying to protect his men while leading a patrol in a mine field in Afghanistan in 2012. Within hours thousands of Americans responded over the internet and telephone. These Americans understand a simple truth: We must not be a country that sends our young sons and daughters to fight in wars, and then turns against them. These Americans understand that when the young soldier was placed on trial, the American people were also on trial beside him, because he had been sent to war in their names, and he was sent to prison in their names as well. These thousands of Americans responded because they do not want one more reason NOT TO BELIEVE in their government. They do not want to believe that America has become a country that isn't worth fighting for any longer. They want to believe that our president who has set free suspected terrorists will now intervene and grant this soldier a presidential pardon the way President Lincoln did for soldiers in the Civil War, and for the same reason: So the nation can begin to heal the wounds of a long war that divided them. And it must be our president who insists on justice because the Army can no longer be trusted since 2013 when they allowed General Jeffrey Allen Sinclair to plea bargain away charges that he sexually terrorized a female soldier under his command in Afghanistan and threatened to murder her and her family. At his court-martial the general wept and begged for mercy and was spared prison time and allowed to retire with a pension while Lt. Lorance was sent to Leavenworth prison for twenty years for trying to protect his men in a combat zone. Our president is the only person who can pardon Lt. Lorance and end this injustice. We need 100,000 signatures in a month for this to do any good at all. Our only chance is for it to go viral. We have to get to work.
