🆕 UPDATE: Crystalline Silica Dust Detected — We’re Demanding Pollution Protections Now

Dear friends,

Since launching this petition, our community has uncovered deeply concerning information: crystalline silica — a known cancer-causing substance — has been detected in the air around the Glenholme Quarry since 2022.

This dangerous dust is generated by crushing rock and can travel far beyond the pit. It’s linked to lung cancer, silicosis, kidney disease, and autoimmune illness. And yet — there is still no real-time air quality monitoring, no public alert system, and no accountability for the risks we’re being forced to breathe.

Our community was never told.

That’s why we’ve relaunched the petition with a clear and urgent demand:
Pollution protections now. Pause the expansion. Require a full Cumulative Impact Assessment.

 
What We’re Asking For:
A Cumulative Impact Assessment (CIA) to evaluate the long-term harm from this quarry and others nearby
A Focus Report to force disclosure of health data, dust exceedances, and wetland destruction
A halt to the expansion until real-time monitoring and community oversight are in place
 
We’ve also updated the petition to reflect how this issue affects everyone in Nova Scotia. Weak environmental laws, limited municipal power, and a rush to approve extraction projects means this kind of threat could happen anywhere — and it already is.
