The issue

To the Chief Executive Officer and Councillors of Wodonga City Council,

We, the undersigned, call on Wodonga City Council and relevant State Government authorities to urgently address safety, access, and public transport concerns impacting Kerribana Primary School and the wider Leneva community.

Since the school’s opening, residents, families, and road users have experienced growing traffic congestion, unsafe pedestrian conditions, and inadequate infrastructure to safely support the increased movement of children and community members.

These issues affect not only students and parents, but also local residents, commuters, cyclists, and pedestrians who rely on safe, functional roads and pathways.

Key Concerns

• Lack of safe pedestrian crossings in high-traffic areas

• Traffic congestion and unsafe vehicle movements

• Insufficient traffic management and speed control measures

• Inadequate footpath connectivity and safe walking routes

• Poor alignment between infrastructure delivery and community growth

• Limited and unsafe access to public transport connections

Why This Matters to Leneva

Kerribana Primary School is a vital part of our growing community. However, surrounding infrastructure has not kept pace with development, creating avoidable risks and daily frustration for residents.

Safe roads, walkways, and transport links are essential for:

• Protecting children and pedestrians

• Supporting families and school operations

• Reducing traffic conflict and congestion

• Ensuring accessibility for all community members

• Enabling safe use of public transport

Public Transport Access

Many families, students, and residents rely on bus services and transport links. Current access routes lack safe crossings, continuous footpaths, and appropriate protection for children and pedestrians travelling independently.

Without safe transport connectivity, vehicle dependency increases, further compounding congestion and safety risks.

We Request

We respectfully urge authorities to:

• Conduct an urgent safety and traffic risk assessment

• Implement immediate interim safety measures

• Improve pedestrian and cycling safety infrastructure

• Review and upgrade public transport access and connectivity

• Commit to clear timelines for permanent upgrades

• Improve coordination between council, state agencies, and planners

• Maintain transparent communication with the community

Our Position

This petition is about community safety, responsible planning, and ensuring infrastructure reflects the needs of a growing population.

Preventative action today will avoid serious incidents tomorrow.

The Kerribana Primary School and Leneva community deserve safe, functional, and future-ready infrastructure now.
