Dear supporters,
By now, you will likely have heard the tragic news about the family of four who died when the boat they were in sank in the English Channel. Two of them were children - a baby is still missing.
Our thoughts are with the family's loved ones at this awful time.
However, we also know that 'thoughts' are not enough. These deaths are not inevitable, and they don't happen when safe routes to asylum exist.
We're asking for your help in protecting the only remaining safe route for refugee children in Europe: the refugee family reunion scheme. And on the 4th November, UK MPs are voting on it in the House of Commons.
After seeing an initial defeat and then a return to the House of Lords, this vote on the 4th is now potentially the last opportunity to keep the scheme before Brexit.
There are less than 10 weeks left before the end of the transition period and the end of the scheme: we are running out of time.
The scheme will also now no longer be negotiated with the EU: this is our only option.
Will you write to your MP to ask them to vote to save the scheme?
You can use Safe Passage's tool in the link, or email to your MP directly using the contact details here https://www.writetothem.com
The momentum that has been built up by this petition - thanks to all of you - over the last year, is incredible. The petition has helped to raise this issue so much further than me and Hannah ever thought it would! So we also want to thank you all for your continued support to the petition and to the campaign for child refugee family reunion overall.
Very best wishes to you all,
Melissa
*Edit - please also consider editing the letter in the Safe Passage template by adding your own perspective/ changing the wording in order to maximise impact. Thank you all :)
