Dear supporters,
We hope you are all safe and keeping well, and Eid Mubarak to those of you celebrating!
Some of you may have seen the news this morning, that the government has done a U-turn on its promise to reunite refugee children with their families.
They say they will be moving to a 'discretionary' system instead of a mandatory system, meaning that after Brexit, there will no longer be any commitment to allow stranded child refugees to join their families here in the UK.
The last time there was no mandatory obligation to reunite refugee children, was 2014, when just eight people were brought to safety in the UK. This is compared to the 1,082 individuals who were transferred in 2018.
We are so disappointed by this news, and believe that the government should be making a commitment to reunite vulnerable refugees with their loved ones.
We cannot trust a 'discretionary' process, essentially an arbitrary system that cannot offer any concrete safety to the children across Europe currently separated from loved ones.
Please help by sharing this petition and the news article as far as you can - the more support we have, the more we can pressure the government to rethink!
Many thanks as always.
