Dear Supporters,
Recalls of frozen shrimp feared to be radioactive have been designated the second-highest health hazard warning, a Class II, by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as reported by Newsweek.
The recalls have expanded to multiple brands being sold in at least 33 states.
The Shrimp Alliance wrote of industry concerns including the FDA statement that “Cs-137 has a half-life of thirty years . . . [it] is readily excreted and does not accumulate in seafood.” However, years of scientific data following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster proves that cesium 137 most certainly does (bio)accumulate and when ingested leads to genetic mutations, cancer and heart disease.
The FDA has a list of states, brands and lot numbers here.
Please share the Change petition you that signed, and also this MoveOn petition, which is the signature companion petition to the FDA Citizen Petition on the radioactive food issue. You can also leave a comment on the FDA petition.
Take care, and source your food mindfully!
