I'm not sure how many signatures its going to take, for Wabanaki tribal leaders to finally take a public stance against genocide in Palestine. Tribal leaders have a habit of taking and applying the feedback of non-natives and non-Wabanakis over their own tribal members feedback. The silence is LOUD right now. We are in the age of technology, where the dark acts of inhumanity are being shown in real time. We are able to click a few times on a screen and see pretty much anything we want. We can even watch genocide unfold, and decide to scroll right past it. Genocide is not something that "blows over." Genocide is only finished when it accomplishes its main goal of completely wiping out an entire group of people from the face of the Earth. The news about genocide can be blocked by algorithms and replaced with fuzzy cat videos to distract away from the violence.
Respectability politics ensure that the goals and wants of the state are the normalized standard of policy. Even if it goes against everything that the people as a whole need. We can't allow the fear of being denounced by the United States and political leaders of this state to dictate our moral obligation to speak out against genocide waged against any group of people. The settler state wants to normalize silence in the face of oppression. The settler state thrives in silence. We must continue to disrupt the "business as usual" routine and "getting back to normal." Like many of my compatriots, there is no normal to get back to. To us what we've witnessed in Gaza since Oct 7th has changed us forever. We will never be the same. Normal, is genocide. We don't want normal. We want human rights. For all.
Free Palestine!
