Thank you to everyone who signed the petition demanding improved Verizon service in the Westgate area. Your support has already resulted in meaningful progress and direct communication with the right departments.
We recently received an official response from Verizon Executive Relations, as well as held a phone call with them to discuss the ongoing service issues. Below is a summary of the most important information:
What Verizon Stated in Their Written Response
Based on their letter sent to the FCC:
Verizon acknowledges ongoing wireless service degradation in and around Lakewood, including Westgate.
They stated that they have used two temporary “Cell on Wheels” (COW) sites for years to provide supplemental coverage in the area.
They confirmed that no current outages were detected recently, though they recognize the coverage problems continue.
Verizon explained that it is difficult to install permanent towers and long-term wireless facilities in Lakewood due to community opposition and legal actions, which has slowed down normal infrastructure expansion.
While they did not disclose future expansion plans, they stated they are actively working on addressing the challenges and will continue to update the community.
What Verizon Told Us Over the Phone
During our call with Verizon Executive Relations:
They stated that they do not have full control over improving coverage, because local officials and community opposition have blocked approval for a permanent cell tower—which they say is necessary for a real fix.
Without local approval, Verizon says their long-term options remain limited.
They acknowledged ongoing complaints and said they are continuing to monitor the situation.
What We Should Do Next
Share the petition so more residents can join and increase pressure.
Reach out to local officials, since Verizon says the issue is largely in their hands because of zoning and tower-approval restrictions.
Continue reporting service problems directly to Verizon so they are fully aware of the extent of the issue.

Thank you again to everyone supporting this effort. The more voices we have, the harder it is for this issue to be ignored.
