One of the biggest issues with the lack of a loading zone is that loading zones double as emergency vehicle access/parking. There is currently no emergency vehicle parking or even fire lanes in Trinidad harbor.
On a busy day in Trinidad harbor (commercial crab season, opening day of fishing, summer holidays, etc) The chaos in the harbor parking lot could inhibit emergency vehicle access. There are no fire lanes, emergency vehicle parking, or any clear rules or enforcement to ensure traffic can move through the parking area. A delayed or restricted response to a fire or medical emergency at the restaurant, vacation rental, beach, or pier as a result of blocked access could lead to unnecessary suffering or even death, and the Rancheria will be liable.
Designating a loading zone in Trinidad harbor has no logical argument against it. A loading zone improves public safety, access, traffic flow, and enjoyment for everyone. It costs less than $100 for some green paint and a 15 minute loading only sign.
The only reason against is apathy. Please share this petition and encourage others to sign. Let’s get this done and improve the harbor for everyone.
