Why Plant-Based Toothpaste Matters:
Mainstream toothpastes often contain animal-derived ingredients like glycerin from animal fat, and are routinely tested on animals under cruel lab conditions. But the harm runs deeper. Many formulas rely on harsh surfactants like SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), which can trigger burning, peeling, or oral pain—especially for neurodivergent individuals with heightened sensory sensitivities, and those with eczema or reactive skin. These chemicals can inflame gums, worsen dental sensitivity, and make basic hygiene feel like punishment.  Some try to mask the damage with lotion, but that’s a temporary numbing—not a solution. Even with lotion, the skin still registers the sting, the discomfort, the sensory overload. Worse, many lotions themselves contain SLS-like compounds, compounding the harm under the guise of relief. This cycle of irritation and masking is not care—it’s neglect. The root problem must be solved, not softened. Justice demands more than symptom management—it demands systemic reversal.  That’s why we call for a full shift: choose completely, fully, 100% vegan and entirely plant-based lotions, soaps, toothpastes, and hygiene products. No loopholes. No cruelty. No compromise. Every product we use should reflect our values—compassion, accessibility, and ecological integrity.  Alcohol-free is better for sensitive skin and oral tissues. And when it comes to hayfever sprays, those that are both steroid-free and alcohol-free are far safer for individuals with dental and skin sensitivities, mild alcohol allergies, neurodivergent sensory profiles, ADHD, and even mild heart arrhythmia. These aren’t niche concerns—they’re public health realities. We must stop normalizing harm and start designing care that includes everyone.
