Petition updateUrge the Minns government to implement 50c Opal faresDiscussion with Dr Marjorie O'neil today

Wow. What a day for our petition.

Today, I went and visited state parliament to meet with the parlimentary secretary for public transport, Dr Marjorie O'neil. Some major points of interest.

- Reduced fares is unlikely to happen in the near future due to the fuel shortage, at this rate the fuel deficit in Australia is so extreme, to the fact that the government will have to sanction consumer fuel purchases by the end of this year, if we are encouraging people to take busses, more services will have to me run = more fuel, although reducing fares will save fuel from consumers traveling less by car, this saving is not quantifiable, meaning it is a significant risk which the government is not willing to take.

- In the future everything is on the table i.e.; free public transport for under 18 year olds, 50c fares and more fare free days

- The parlimentary secretary is on our side, but her hands are tied, especially in a very constrained and uncertain environment of current. However, I will continue advocating for this petition untill something does happen, however long that will take.

- To push this petition further I have been encouraged to make a formal report, citing testimonies, statistics and quantifiable evidence of value.

To do this I urge you, that if you live in Queensland or in New South Wales, sharing a testimony on how 50 cent fares have effected you or will effect you would be invaluable to me, to do so please email me at oscar@50cfares.com or shoot me an Instagram DM at @50cfares. All testimonies will be anonymous, but attaching your post code will be helpful.

Yours,

Oscar
