Urge the EU to Revoke Sanctions Against Syria

Urge the EU to Revoke Sanctions Against Syria
Das Problem
Over the past 60 years, we as Syrian people have been dehumanized, ignored, and unsupported. A stark example of this treatment was the disrespectful attitude by France and Germany towards our temporary government and our Syrian nation. This saddens us not only as Syrians, but also as believers in the values that the European Union (EU) claims to stand for.
In light of these circumstances, we believe it is of the utmost urgency for the EU to reconsider and revoke the sanctions imposed on Syria. These sanctions have been impacting our economy and our people more than it has the government, hindering national recovery and growth. Syria, like any other country, deserves the opportunity to flourish and advance.
The negative impact of these sanctions has been extensively documented. According to a study that was published in World Development, there is strong evidence that such sanctions disproportionately affect the powerless, worsening poverty and economic inequality (source: World Development, 2019). It is time for the EU to reassess its stance, putting justice and human dignity at the forefront.
We urge EU leaders to take immediate action, to truly embody the values they proclaim, and foster a world wherein respect, equality, and justice are non-negotiable. Please sign this petition to make a stand for the Syrian people and the true ethics of humanity. Your signatures will bring us one step closer to justice, equality, and the right of a nation to independently progress and prosper.
