Dear Senator Murkowski,

We submit this petition with nearly 500 signatures from constituents and advocates urging you to champion the Equal Rights Amendment and advance Senate Joint Resolution 38 (SJ Res 38).

This submission follows our prior meetings with your Chief of Staff, Kate Williams-Stern, where the urgency of final ERA recognition—and your capacity to drive bipartisan Senate action—was clearly established. We now bring forward organized, documented public support to move that discussion into action.

As reflected in this petition—and reinforced by sustained national advocacy, including former Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s nationwide ERA petition effort—support for congressional action is not in question. The ratification threshold has been met. What remains is not consensus, but the decision to act.

This urgency is not new. In your own words following the Senate’s failure to advance ERA ratification, you stated: “it is far, far overdue” and emphasized that “there should be no time limit on equality” and that “it is just long overdue.” You further affirmed that “it is far past time for Congress to act.” That record now requires continued and concrete action, not repetition of concern.

For that reason, we are requesting a brief virtual meeting with you to align on next steps and ensure your office is actively leading—not observing—this effort.

Further delay is no longer justified.

We are asking you to take ownership of this moment by actively championing SJ Res 38 and using your position to generate coordinated legislative movement within Congress.

Specifically, we expect the following actions:

Issue a bipartisan “Dear Colleague Letter,” led by you, affirming support for the ERA and SJ Res 38 and calling on members in both chambers to advance its final recognition.
Conduct direct outreach to at least five colleagues across both the Senate and the House to build the coalition necessary to move this forward during this session of Congress.
This is a moment that requires visible, deliberate leadership. The ERA should not remain stalled by procedural delay when the path to recognition is clear and supported.

We are not requesting symbolic alignment. We are expecting the use of your office to actively advance SJ Res 38 to resolution.

As stated by President Donald J. Trump in his 2017 Women’s Equality Day Proclamation:

“…resilient women have inspired countless others to challenge the status quo in order to advance the ultimate American value: that all men and women are created equal. Together, we are creating a Nation where every daughter in America can grow up believing in herself, her future, and following her heart toward the American Dream.”

That principle now requires action.

We expect to continue this work with your office and to see measurable progress.

Respectfully,

Helene de Boissiere-Swanson, Founder Katrina’s Dream
