On May 1st, 2017 the Alaskan Board of Game accepted to their agenda - our proposal to amend Alaskan Administrative Code (AAC 5 92.260). You may not have read about it in the news - but this is huge. If we are successful in November this will stop the hunting of bear cubs in Alaska - completely. We are optimistic. Researchers and attorneys in our organization have been busy at work studying the complete Alaskan Administrative code in detail. We poured over the intensive management protocols, hunting regulations and Alaskan Department of Fish and Game procedures. We even interviewed a wildlife biologist at the Anchorage Wildlife Center and others. They were all happy to talk to us. They provided valuable details. They said they really suffered from “misinformation that was propagated by other animal activist organizations”. It was refreshing for them to meet an organization really interested in learning and listening. The proposal process was very complicated and precise. They automatically reject most proposals. They actually assisted us through that complex process. Without their help we never would have penetrated the bureaucracy. Once the proposal was perfectly crafted, we backed it with 20,000 signatures. The final decision is being made in November. We fly out to Anchorage to make our case to save cubs.
