Urge Piraeus Municipality to Uphold Stray Cat Welfare Laws

The Issue

Each day in the streets of Piraeus city, hundreds of stray cats suffer and die helplessly. As concerned citizens, among many who care deeply about these animals, we can no longer stand idle. It is heart-wrenching to see these innocent lives struggling while the local government does not act accordingly. Our city's multitude of stray cats rely on the benevolence of kind-hearted volunteers, citizens who juggle their everyday lives with the enormous task of providing love, food, and sometimes shelter to these animals. Yet, our resources are limited. The Greek government's laws are clear: feeding, sterilising, and providing medical care for these animals is a mandatory responsibility of the municipalities. However, the municipality of Piraeus city remains conspicuously absent in enforcing these laws.

The situation has escalated to a point of outrage among the citizens and volunteers of Piraeus city. Our plea is not out of convenience but the sound, legally-backed insistence that our municipality must uphold its duty. It is time for the Municipality of Piraeus city to legally, responsibly, and kindly shoulder their responsibility and provide the imperative care to Piraeus's stray cats.

We urge swift and decisive action. The lives of countless stray cats, and the humane standing of our city, depend on it. Please join us in sending this message. Sign the petition. Your signature could mean a new life for a deserving feline friend.
