After years of contentious actions by the abutters who are trying to claim Tantummaheag Landing as theirs and take it from the public, First Selectwoman Martha Shoemaker has given the public a mere 2 weeks to consider the harmful and lasting effects of the terrible memorandum of understanding (MOU) giving the abutters unprecedented control of public access to our open waterways. 

A Special Meeting of the Board of Selectmen will be held Monday April 29 5:30 PM at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall. This meeting is for the sole purpose of taking action on the MOU. Please attend, speak out, e-mail the Board of Selectmen, and help advance the petition to urge the BOS to vote NO on the Tantummaheag deal. I was contacted by a concerned citizen who shared his recent experience at Tantummaheag Landing, as detailed in his letter to Selectman Lampos, which he shared with me, excerpt below:

As I believe you are aware, on Thursday April 18, 2024, twice while I was quietly sitting at the end of Tantummaheag Landing reading a book, I was approached and verbally berated, first by [abutter], and second by a man who I believe is in her employ.

When I refused to be intimidated and leave, someone called the police twice. 

This is the abutter the Town would be making a “deal” with. The Town should be standing up for the rights of the citizens, not giving them away.

We already have over 100 signers on the petition, but I fear that the word of this deal has not circulated due to the short window of consideration given. Please tell your friends and neighbors and spread this info to your social media groups. Our goal is 200 signatures by Monday!
