With recent high level meetings with the FDA and with multiple manufacturers who could produce detemir if they receive the required assistance from Novo Nordisk, the only remaining hurdle is Novo Nordisk agreeing to assist another manufacturer in making this insulin. Detemir is required for people who depend on its unique flexibility and consistency, and in some patient populations it cannot be substituted without risking real harm.
