Hi there!
Thank you so much for signing our petition to uplift survivors of child sexual abuse! We’ve received over 25,000 signatures and we couldn't be more grateful for your support.
While our campaign is a national one, we wanted to update you on our recent success in introducing a bill in our home state of California to extend the statute of limitations for survivors whose child sexual abuse material has been distributed. SB 558 will edit the current statute such that victims will now have until they are 40 years old or 5 years after they realize the material exists, whichever date comes later, to file court proceedings. The bill also redefines the definition of “distribution” as it relates to child sexual abuse material to include public display, so perpetrators of this violence are charged for the correct crime.
If you or someone you know has been affected by this issue and would like to share your story, please do reach out to us— we would love to hear from you! We also welcome allies to organize with us as our bills travel through their respective legislatures. If you’d like to volunteer with us in this capacity, you can find more information at the following page on our website https://www.youthpowerproject.org/protectkids-notabusers
The fight is not over yet. We must continue to do what we can to rectify the current shortcomings in our legal system. Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
Saanvi and Ani <3
