We petition for governments worldwide to apply pressure to the social media platform TikTok to ban the horrifying practice of Chinese "cat-torture clubs" where live cats are subjected to explicit, unimaginable torture on video for financial gain, including (but not limited to) skinning them alive, cooking cats alive on hot-plates, placing kittens in blenders, etc., etc. Such monstrosity has no place in a civilised world and no social media company should be permitting the dissemination of, and thereby encouraging the creation of, such media.

One need not be a animal-lover to find such behaviour impossible to process. It diminishes us all as human beings and is not killing for sport (as many of the victims are kept alive for repeat torture) but simply cruelty on a level that no right-thinking person should sanction or ignore. Its first-level solution is a straightforward one -- sign this petition to bring pressure to bear on the social media company that turns a blind-eye to it, and thus remove much of its intended audience.

Such unthinkable cruelty and torture of innocent animals, distressingly commonplace on popular social media platforms, is not merely an issue about animal rights but a fundamental question about our standards of morality as a society and the kind of behaviours that we endorse and allow to propagate on these platforms.

TikTok, as a globally influential social media platform, should recognise its responsibility here and take immediate action to prevent these horrifying videos from being hosted. We urge governments across the world to intervene and pressurise TikTok and others to prevent the broadcasting of animal abuse generally.
