We are so grateful to everyone who tapped in to help Benton Harbor's publicly-owned school system win debt freedom! We are still advocating for:

  •  smaller healthier learning environments(15 students per teacher),
  • transparent reporting in local funding,
  • fully funded schools,
  • investments in enhanced programs like careers trade, driver's education, arts, and improved equitable testing practices,

Yet TODAY WE CELEBRATE DEBT FREEDOM!! We received written confirmation on April 9, 2024 from Governor Whitmer's Office and the Local Emergency Financial Assistance Loan Board that we are free from the $12 million debt!! Again thank you to everyone for helping our children keep their neighborhood schools. Now let's do everything we can to help rebuild our healthy community schools with fresh start solutions.  Join us today to help transform the school-to-prison pipeline into a prosperity pipeline. Thank you to everyone who pitched in!

 

Flint Schools is still waiting for debt freedom too, so the work is not done, but in the meantime, we can be happy for every win as they come.
