The Issue

As a parent living in Kilcock, the joy of watching children play freely feels like a distant dream. My kids, aged just 4 and 5, find themselves with limited options for outdoor play. In Ledwill Park, a community in dire need of improvement, the only green areas that should be safe havens for play are instead uneven, hilly, and without even a single bench for rest or social interaction. The inadequacy of these spaces has me driving to Maynooth just so my children can kick a ball or run around safely, as local sporting grounds remain locked, inaccessible to everyday use.

The stark reality of this situation is more than just an inconvenience; it is a safety hazard. The current state of the green spaces in Ledwill Park forces children onto the roads to play—roads that are hardly the safe playgrounds they deserve. What's more, this lack of adequate facilities hampers community integration, leaving little room for interactions, shared laughter, and the forming of bonds that green spaces naturally foster.

The green spaces could also be much more useful for dog owners and other residents. A more usable open area, along with some seating or benches, would give people somewhere to walk their dogs, sit, meet neighbours and enjoy the green space rather than it simply being an area of grass that people rarely use.
We are asking the developer to improve the existing green spaces in Ledwill Park by levelling or regrading a suitable section to provide a flat, usable grass area where children can safely play football and other games, while retaining plenty of open green space for dog walking and general recreation.
We would also like to see some seating or benches provided so that parents, dog owners and other residents can spend time in the area.
We are not asking for a major new facility. Ledwill Park already has plenty of green space. The problem is that much of it isn't particularly usable. With relatively simple improvements, these areas could become somewhere that children, families, dog owners and other residents can properly enjoy.

We urge the developers to realize the potential these green areas hold for bringing people together and fostering a nurturing environment for our children. With proper investment and vision, Ledwill Park can be transformed into a cornerstone of community spirit—a place where generations can thrive.

Please join us in urging the developers to prioritize these essential improvements and create a safer, more inclusive space for everyone. Sign this petition today to make a real difference in Kilcock.
