Dear Supporters,

We appreciate so much that you signed our petition!  Today, we submitted it to Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, as well as to the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance; and the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.  

In our cover letter, we commended Mr. Carney on his victory at this critical time for Canada, and expressed appreciation for the previous Liberal government’s work on reproductive rights issues. However, more remains to be done and the gains we’ve made so far must be protected. We told him that you and most other Canadians want the new government to uphold abortion rights and have made several demands in the petition. 

Because Mr. Carney is appointing a new Cabinet on May 13, we highlighted the urgency of creating a separate Ministry for Women and Gender Equality. The priorities for his new government cannot succeed or thrive without the full and equal participation of women and gender-diverse people – because gender equality is essential to economic growth and success.
