Well the City of Maple Ridge has made things soooo much worse! By adding a bike lane on the inside of the parallel parking and a very large painted meridian not only have they made this intersection more dangerous but they have now also impacted the ability for residents of Albion Station to safely exit their complex without pulling their vehicles fully into traffic to see if it’s safe. This morning I witnessed the following safety concerns:

1) traffic on 240th was backed up well past 102
2) traffic on 102 was backed up well passed the coffee shop
3) parents (I’m guessing frustrated with traffic) we’re letting their kids jump out of their vehicles on 240th while in stop and go traffic on a green light and darting between the parked cars and new bike lane to the sidewalk
4) it took 3 green lights to get from 102 to hill avenue.
5) after the morning rush, large trucks were driving in the middle of the road due to how narrow the road is now
6) after the morning rush all traffic was speeding through the school zone
7) vehicles pulling out of Albion Station have to pull there nose all the way out into oncoming traffic just to see if it’s safe to turn, almost getting hit
8.) I didn’t see one cyclist

I have notified the school administration

I’ve notified the PAC president

I’ve notified the RCMP non emergency and asked for added patrols tomorrow morning.

I’ll be out tomorrow morning watching again to see if it gets any better.

Also! A fire truck was coming down 240th street today and there is now not enough room for cars to pull over to allow emergency vehicles through!
