Hi Christina,
As per our the chat today, we do not have a school crossing guard program here in Maple Ridge. Based on our experience school crossing guard programs are typically initiated and managed by the School District.
When we make changes to traffic signals we follow best practices as outlined by the Transportation Association of Canada. Since there are over 3,500 municipalities in Canada these best practices help ensure consistent traffic control across the country. In 2019, we enlisted the services of an external consultant firm that specializes in traffic signal warrants to conducted a traffic signal warrant evaluation to determine if a “Full Signal” (4-way traffic signal) was recommended for this location. The findings and recommendation of this evaluation noted this location does not meet the criteria for a full-traffic signal.
While I understand this is not the answer you were hoping to hear, I hope you can understand the national criteria municipalities follow to ensure consistency across the country and region. In response to your concerns, I will place a request for RCMP enforcement as their priorities permit.
Thank you,
Mark Halpin BA, PMP

Subject: Intersection 240 street / Hill Avenue
Hi,
I would like to know when this intersection 240th street and Hill Avenue was last surveyed for pedestrian volume as well as if there is a current plan to upgrade this intersection to a fully controlled 4 way intersection? Thank you. I also have questions about whether or not the city has a crossing guard program for schools. When I was in Surrey this city funded.
Sincerely,
Christina Holland
