Hi everyone,
Today's update is to let you know that we’ve chosen to partner up with and support the amazing campaign group No to Schools Bill
This powerful collective brings together campaigners like Maddie and me who are speaking out about attendance measures and other harmful aspects of the bill, with the voices of evidence focussed academics and organisations who are also advocating for change.
At the time of our writing, The Schools Bill is still in progress. Although rumours have been reported that it is going to be withdrawn this hasn't yet happened. However, even if the bill is withdrawn attendance fines are already causing harm to families - and we know that the government intends to make new legislation to bring in further concerning changes even if the bill does not go ahead. The work of the No to Schools Bill collective will continue even if/when new legislation is introduced.
It is an important time to keep the pressure and awareness up.
We hope you will join us in supporting No to Schools Bill. You can find out more on the website linked below including where to follow the campaign on Facebook and Twitter. There are also resources on the site that are easy to share to help raise awareness as well as quotes and evidence which can be added to letters to MPs.
We wholeheartedly agree with No to Schools Bill as they say:
Say no to blaming and scapegoating children, young people, and families for the failings of society and the school system.
