Update New Zealand's surrogacy laws for clearer parenthood process
The issue
Currently, New Zealand's surrogacy laws do not automatically recognise intended parents as legal parents at birth regardless of an agreement.Families are left in a state of being unable to enjoy responsibilities of parenthood from the moment of birth.
We propose for a change of the Surrogacy Act to allow for pre-birth orders, intended parents as the legal parents from the moment of their child's birth during the surrogacy process, protecting the rights of the child and respecting the choices of both surrogates and intended parents.
This petition calls on the New Zealand government to update its surrogacy laws and the overall adopting system, so that New Zealand can ensure that every family is treated with the fairness, respect they deserve.
Please sign this petition to urge policymakers to create a more fair surrogacy process in New Zealand.
